Creator Spotlight: Original by Paige

We’ve partnered with Gratitude – a spectacular art installation featuring 51 statues, in celebration of our NHS staff and key workers’ sacrifice and dedication. The exhibition is touring around four cities in the UK, so we thought it would be nice to throw a spotlight on one of our creators from the cities on the tour.

In case you didn’t know: all of thortful’s card designs are made by independent creators, whose businesses we’re proud to support. Representing Birmingham, the first city on the tour, is Paige, aka OriginalByPaige. We’ve asked a few questions to find out more about her, and what she’s feeling grateful for in 2021.

Over to you Paige…

Tell us a little about yourself

My name is Paige and I’m from Birmingham. I started by business Original by Paige when I was studying fine art at university. I love creating funny and relatable greetings cards from all the things we love; my aim is to create a card that feels like it’s been specifically made with you in mind.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I get my inspiration from a mixture of music, TV, food, fashion and definitely Netflix, I love Netflix! I also get a lot of my inspiration from my family, as they all like very different things and are from different eras, so they help me to create cards that can appeal to everyone.

What advice would you give to creatives starting up?

I would tell creatives to focus and trust their own individual style of design and be confident in that. That’s what will make your cards stand out from the rest!

What is your most popular design? And which is your favourite?

My most popular design is my Adele “hello, from your favourite childddddd” card with over 15,000 sales. My favourite card design is one of my newest, which is a Love Island card featuring Chloe saying “NO WAY!” because I’m a hugeeee Love Island fan.

What made you decide to sell on thortful?

thortful is a great platform that really showcases their designers, and I wanted to sell my cards on a website that has a community feel.

What are you most grateful for?

This last year has been very tough for everyone, so I’m very grateful to thortful for allowing us small creatives to continue to work throughout the pandemic, and it’s been a great way for people to stay connected with their loved ones.

So what are you feeling grateful for, during this difficult year? We think most of us are feeling grateful for the hard work of our NHS staff, and that’s the inspiration behind Gratitude.

The free exhibition runs for ten days in Birmingham beginning 20 August, moves to Manchester on 3 September, and continues on to Edinburgh and London later in the year. For more information about dates and to book your tickets, visit the Gratitude website.
